Meal Applications

We request that every family complete the application for the federal lunch every year. Supplemental school funding is determined by percentages from the total applications received, even from parents who know that their child will not receive free or reduced meals. These applications are sent home by the District and should be returned to the school or completed online after July 1 at LAUSD Food Services DIvision. You will be notified regarding your eligibility for free, reduced, or full price meals. 

The National School Lunch Act was signed on June 4, 1946 and established a federal program to help feed our nations schoolchildren. Today, in additional to the National School Lunch Act, other legislation has been adopted to support childhood nutrition such as the School Breakfast Program, Summer Food Service Program, and Child and Adult Food Care Program.

The meal application process is federally mandated and the Food Services Division must follow all applicable regulations in order to continue to receive reimbursement funds. Each year the California Department of Education, Nutrition Services Division, must approve our meal application. Once approved, we begin the annual process of qualifying students for free and reduced meal benefits. To see if you qualify for free or reduced priced meals you will need to fill out the application and submit it before the yearly deadline. A new application must be submitted every year.

LAUSD Café L.A.

Breakfast and lunch are important times in the school day for children to practice social skills and good table manners. We want our children to be healthy as well as good students. We encourage you to limit junk food and discourage the consumption of sugary food items such as sport drinks, sodas, cakes, cupcakes, cookies, and candy on campus.

We discourage students from sharing food due to a high incidence of students with food allergies or restrictions.

Notify the cafeteria and your child's teacher in writing if your child has any allergies or special dietary needs.

Breakfast

All students are offered Breakfast in the Classroom (BIC) each morning at 8:00.

Lunch

Children may bring a sack lunch or purchase lunch from the school cafeteria. 

Please make sure that your child has money for meals every day. It is the District's policy that students who forget to bring money receive a replacement meal (e.g. fruit and juice), not the regular meal on the menu. 

Lunches will not be delivered to students except in emergencies. In these instances, please bring the lunch before 11:30 in order to ensure delivery without disruption to the classroom. 

Grab & Go Meals

Grab & Go Food Centers distribute free meals to students. Two meals are provided per person. Los Angeles Unified students and their parents should bring their meal barcode card (available at their school) or barcode (sent by mail) to get scanned for meal pickups. Each student has a separate bar code. Adults do not need a barcode to pick up meals.

Our Grab & Go Food Centers are staffed weekdays from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. Visit LAUSD Family Resources to find the nearest Grab & Go Food Center and how to access your student bar code.
